Singapore Issues Advisory as Delhi Pollution Worsens

Singapore’s High Commission has issued a travel and health advisory for its citizens in Delhi as air pollution levels in the national capital continue to remain in the severe category. The advisory follows a sharp deterioration in air quality, with the Air Quality Index staying at hazardous levels for prolonged periods, raising serious health concerns.

The advisory cautioned residents and travellers to limit outdoor activities, especially those involving physical exertion. Vulnerable groups, including children, the elderly, and individuals with respiratory or cardiac conditions, were advised to take extra precautions and seek medical attention if symptoms worsen.

Health Risks and Travel Guidance

Singapore authorities advised the use of protective masks, air purifiers indoors, and regular monitoring of official air quality updates. Travellers were also encouraged to plan their schedules carefully and avoid unnecessary exposure to polluted outdoor environments.

Delhi has been experiencing dense smog due to a combination of vehicular emissions, construction dust, industrial pollution, and unfavourable weather conditions that trap pollutants close to the ground. Reduced wind speed and lower temperatures have further worsened air dispersion.

Local Measures and Ongoing Situation

Delhi authorities have enforced pollution control measures, including restrictions on construction activity, monitoring of vehicular emissions, and advisories for schools and offices. Medical professionals have reported a rise in patients complaining of breathing difficulties, eye irritation, and throat infections.

Officials said air quality is expected to remain poor in the near term, with improvement dependent on changes in weather conditions. Foreign missions continue to remind their citizens to follow local advisories and prioritise health and safety during the pollution episode.
