Sindhi Leaders Appeal to PM Modi for Help in Pakistan
A group of Sindhi nationalist leaders has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to intervene to “save millions of Pakistanis” amid what they describe as a deepening political and economic crisis in Pakistan. The letter claims the situation in the country is deteriorating under the current political and military leadership.
Appeal Targets Sharif and Munir
The leaders, linked to Sindhi nationalist organisations including the Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz (JSMM), criticised Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief General Asim Munir, accusing them of policies that have “endangered lives” and worsened instability. JSMM’s exiled chairman Shafi Burfat was among those calling for international attention to the issue.
Concerns Over Sindh’s Situation
The letter highlights long-standing grievances in Sindh province, including allegations of resource exploitation, lack of autonomy and political suppression. Sindhi groups have repeatedly accused Islamabad of ignoring economic and human rights concerns in the region.
India and Pakistan Yet to Respond
There has been no official response from the Indian government regarding the appeal. Pakistan has traditionally dismissed Sindhi separatist organisations as fringe groups and has not commented on the latest letter.
Regional Context
Sindhi nationalist movements have a long history of demanding greater rights or independence from Pakistan’s federal structure. The renewed appeal reflects ongoing political tensions and deep dissatisfaction among some groups in Sindh.
