Sikhs for Justice Threatens Siege of Indian Consulate Vancouver
The U.S.-based separatist group Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) has threatened to carry out a siege at the Indian Consulate in Vancouver on September 18, starting from 8 a.m. local time. The group advised Indian-Canadians to avoid visiting the consulate on that day.
Accusations by SFJ
SFJ accused Indian consulates of operating a spy network and intimidating Khalistan referendum campaigners in Canada. They cited remarks made by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in Parliament in September 2023, when he said that the role of Indian agents was under investigation in the assassination of Hardeep Singh Nijjar. The outfit claims that espionage and harassment of pro-Khalistan activists continue.
Poster and Targeted Envoy
The group released a poster showing India’s High Commissioner to Canada, Dinesh Patnaik, with a target symbol on his face. The poster carried the caption “New face of India’s Hindutva terror in Canada.”
Duration & Purpose
SFJ states the action will last 12 hours, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., local time. It describes the planned move as a demand for accountability for alleged espionage, intimidation, and threats on Canadian soil. The group also said that one Khalistan Referendum campaign leader, Inderjeet Singh Gosal, was placed under witness protection by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police amid alleged threats following Nijjar’s death.
