Shubman Gill, Shafali Verma Win ICC Monthly Awards

Indian cricketers Shubman Gill and Shafali Verma have been named the ICC Men’s and Women’s Players of the Month for September 2026, completing a double triumph for India. The International Cricket Council announced the awards on October 13, recognising Gill’s record-breaking ODI performances against the West Indies and Verma’s contributions to India’s Asia Cup and Asian Games victories.

Shubman Gill Wins Record Fifth ICC Player of the Month Award

India’s ODI captain Shubman Gill secured his fifth ICC Player of the Month award, becoming the first male cricketer to achieve the milestone.

Gill scored 333 runs in two ODIs against the West Indies, including 110 in Thiruvananthapuram and an unbeaten 223 in Guwahati.

His double century came off 117 balls, making it the fastest in ODI history. His unbeaten innings also helped India successfully chase a target of 406.

Gill defeated fellow Indian Abhishek Sharma and Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza for the September honour.

Shafali Verma Honoured for Asia Cup and Asian Games Success

Shafali Verma claimed her second ICC Women’s Player of the Month award after an impressive September across seven T20 internationals.

The 22-year-old accumulated 360 runs at an average of 72 and a strike rate of 184.61, while also claiming six wickets.

She scored 236 runs during India’s successful Women’s Asia Cup campaign in the UAE and added 188 runs at the Asian Games in Japan.

Her performances included an unbeaten century against Bangladesh in the Asian Games semifinal and 48 runs in the final against Sri Lanka.

India Completes Third ICC Player of the Month Double

This marks the third occasion on which Indian cricketers have won both monthly ICC awards simultaneously.

Verma overcame Sri Lanka captain Chamari Athapaththu and Indian spinner Sree Charani to secure the women’s honour.

The awards recognise India’s individual performances across men’s and women’s international cricket during September 2026.
