Shubman Gill Becomes First Male to Win ICC Player of the Month Four Times

India’s Test captain Shubman Gill has been named the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for July 2025, marking a historic fourth win of this monthly award—the most by any male cricketer.

Stellar Performance in England Series

Gill earned this accolade following a commanding display in the Anderson–Tendulkar Trophy series against England. In July, he amassed 567 runs at an average of 94.50 across three Tests. His standout achievement included a double century—scoring 269 and 161—in a single match at Birmingham, totaling 430 runs, the second-highest match aggregate in Test history and a record for an Indian captain.

A Significant Milestone in His Captaincy Debut

This award is especially meaningful as it comes during Gill’s first Test series as India’s captain. He previously received the ICC Player of the Month titles in January 2023, September 2023, and February 2025—making this latest win his fourth, setting him apart in men’s cricket history.

Gill said he would “cherish forever” his performance in Birmingham and described the series as a valuable learning experience with his team, highlighting that the honor came at a time of personal and professional growth.
