Shreyas Iyer Moved Out Of ICU But Condition Still Delicate
India’s vice-captain Shreyas Iyer has been shifted out of the Intensive Care Unit in Sydney after suffering a serious injury during the third ODI against Australia. While the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that he is “medically stable,” doctors continue to describe his condition as delicate.
How The Injury Happened
Iyer sustained the injury while running backwards to attempt a catch to dismiss Alex Carey. He landed heavily on his left side, resulting in trauma to his lower rib cage and a laceration to his spleen. He was immediately taken off the field and admitted to hospital, where scans confirmed internal bleeding.
Current Medical Status
Though removed from ICU, Iyer remains hospitalised under close observation. A senior BCCI doctor has been assigned to monitor his progress daily. Doctors have cautioned that while vital signs have improved, recovery will take time and a return to cricket will depend on long-term stability.
Outlook Ahead
With India’s upcoming Test series in focus, the management is unlikely to rush Iyer’s comeback. His health will continue to be evaluated in Sydney before any decisions are made regarding travel or rehabilitation.
