Shooting at Midtown Manhattan Office Tower Leaves Four Dead

Four people were killed and another seriously injured after a shooting broke out in an office building in Midtown Manhattan on Monday evening. The incident took place around 6:30 p.m. at a 44-story tower located on Park Avenue near East 52nd Street.

Victims Include NYPD Officer and Civilians

Among the dead was an off-duty New York Police Department officer who was working private security at the time. He was identified as 36-year-old Didarul Islam, a Bangladeshi-American officer and father of two, with a third child on the way. The other victims included three civilians. One more person remains in critical condition.

Shooter Found Dead on Upper Floor

The suspect, later identified as 27-year-old Shane Devon Tamura from Las Vegas, was found dead on the 33rd floor of the building from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was reportedly wearing body armor and carrying a high-powered rifle when he entered the premises. Authorities confirmed that he legally owned firearms and held a Nevada concealed carry permit.

Police and Emergency Response

Law enforcement officers responded swiftly, locking down surrounding buildings and evacuating the premises. The neighborhood, located near Grand Central Station and Rockefeller Center, went into high alert as heavily armed officers cleared the area. Witnesses described scenes of panic and fear, with some saying the experience reminded them of major past terror events.

Investigation Underway

Preliminary findings suggest the attacker had a history of mental health issues, though no motive has been confirmed yet. Investigators are analyzing CCTV footage and digital evidence to determine whether the act was premeditated or triggered by a specific incident. Officials confirmed that the building remains closed as the crime scene investigation continues.
