Sheikh Hasina says She Lives Freely in India, Awaits Bangladesh Return
Sheikh Hasina, the former Prime Minister of Bangladesh, has said that she is “living freely” in New Delhi but will only return home if democratic governance and rule of law are ensured. She expressed her longing to go back to Bangladesh but stressed that political conditions must be right before she makes that decision.
Life in Exile
Hasina, who left Bangladesh amid political turmoil, described her current stay in India as peaceful. She made it clear that she does not plan to leave India until her country provides a fair and legitimate environment for her safe return.
Warning on Elections
The former leader also warned that if her party, the Awami League, is sidelined in the upcoming elections, the process would lose credibility. She predicted that many voters would boycott polls lacking her party’s participation, deepening Bangladesh’s political divide.
Future Outlook
Hasina emphasized that her main concern is ensuring Bangladesh’s democratic continuity. Her remarks highlight the uncertainty surrounding the nation’s political climate and the role of exiled leaders in shaping its future.
