Shastri Slams Gambhir Over India Selection Chaos
Former India coach and commentator Ravi Shastri has harshly criticised the current Indian team under coach Gautam Gambhir, calling the selections “makes no sense” after India’s batting collapse in Guwahati during the second Test against South Africa.
Selection Confusion At Number 3
Shastri pinpointed the frequent changes at the crucial number 3 batting position as emblematic of wider chaos in team strategy. He questioned the decision to promote Washington Sundar to number 3 in the first Test only to demote him to number 8 in the second, while fit batsman Sai Sudharsan returned and reclaimed the spot. The inconsistent batting order, Shastri says, undermines team stability and strategic clarity.
Deeper Strategic Concerns
Beyond just the batting lineup, Shastri also criticised India’s approach on the Guwahati pitch. He said the surface was not one requiring a score of “150/7” but rather a test of patience and skill, and he highlighted that the bowling unit failed to reflect that reality. He called for an urgent reset of strategy under Gambhir’s leadership.
