Congress MP Shashi Tharoor’s convoy was allegedly stopped in Kerala’s Malappuram district while he was travelling to campaign for a party candidate, with one member of his security team reportedly attacked during the disruption. The incident took place when Tharoor was on his way to Wandoor for an election event. Reports said his convoy was blocked near the Thiruvalli Chellithodu bridge area. Video from the spot showed men surrounding the vehicle and shouting as the convoy was forced to halt briefly on the road.
Security Team Member Attacked In Malappuram
According to reports, Tharoor’s team was travelling in two vehicles when a group of around eight men stopped the convoy and prevented it from moving ahead. When a member of the security team stepped out to intervene, he was allegedly manhandled. Reports also said the driver and gunman were among those targeted during the confrontation.
Police Register Case After Convoy Attack
Police said a case was registered after a complaint was filed by a member of Tharoor’s team. Initial reports indicated that at least one person was taken into custody, while some local officials were quoted as saying they had not yet found a confirmed political angle behind the attack. The investigation is continuing.
