Shashi Tharoor Acknowledges Differences Within Congress Amid Infighting Speculation
Former Union Minister and Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has acknowledged recent “differences of opinion” with his party leadership amid rumours of internal divide, but emphasised that these are rooted in constructive dialogue and not personal discord. Speaking in New Delhi, Tharoor asserted that the party remains united and focused on preparing for upcoming elections.
Tharoor Differences
Tharoor clarified that while he may have divergent views on strategy and priorities, these reflect his commitment to strengthening the party, not internal rebellion. He stated, “In any healthy political debate, there will be questions raised around decisions, but that doesn’t make it a split.” He added that his proposals are intended to foster greater grassroots outreach and improve communication with voters.
Congress Unity
Despite speculation about leadership rifts in the wake of electoral setbacks, Tharoor reaffirmed that the Congress high command and core leadership continue to engage in open discussions on organisational strategy. He emphasised that party cohesion remains strong, with internal feedback welcomed as part of a transparent and inclusive decision-making process.
Tharoor dismissed online chatter about factional strife as overblown, attributing it to political opponents and media hype. He stressed the importance of maintaining collective focus as the party gears up for high-stakes state elections.
Party Strengthening
Looking ahead, Tharoor outlined plans to revitalise engagement with youth and local bodies ahead of key state polls. He spoke of collaborative efforts to recalibrate the party’s messaging and grassroots machinery, ensuring Congress remains in tune with contemporary voter concerns.
He urged all party members to contribute ideas and remain committed ahead of critical electoral challenges. His closing message was clear: “Healthy disagreement is a sign of strength, not weakness. We remain one Congress.”
