Shah Blasts Dynastic Politics in Tamil Nadu Rally

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, addressing a rally in Tirunelveli on August 22, 2025, accused DMK president M.K. Stalin and Congress leader Sonia Gandhi of focusing only on dynastic politics. He alleged that Stalin’s primary agenda was to make his son Udhayanidhi the next Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, while Sonia Gandhi’s aim was to elevate Rahul Gandhi as Prime Minister. Shah declared that such political ambitions would not succeed, insisting that the NDA was on course for victory.

Allegations of Corruption

Shah also labelled the DMK-led Tamil Nadu government as the “most corrupt” in the country. He strongly defended the 130th Constitutional Amendment Bill, which seeks to disqualify leaders facing serious criminal charges even before conviction. Dismissing Stalin’s criticism of the measure as a “black bill,” Shah argued that it was instead the DMK’s governance that had been marked by “black deeds.”

Alliance with AIADMK

Highlighting the BJP’s alliance with the AIADMK, Shah said the partnership was aimed at saving Tamil Nadu from corruption and dynastic rule. He claimed that the NDA alliance in the state now commands over 30% of the vote share and expressed confidence about winning the 2026 assembly elections. Shah also invoked Tamil pride, recalling leaders like A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and C.P. Radhakrishnan as examples of BJP’s respect for Tamil contributions.

DMK’s Counterattack

In response, DMK leaders hit back strongly. Senior leader A. Raja accused Amit Shah of hypocrisy, pointing to Jay Shah’s role as BCCI Secretary as an example of nepotism within the BJP. He argued that the right to decide the Chief Minister belongs to the people of Tamil Nadu, not to outside political leaders, and described Shah’s statements as misleading propaganda.
