Seven Killed in Chamba Bus Accident
Seven people were killed and 11 others injured after a private passenger bus overturned on a mountain road in Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district on Saturday morning. Six of the injured were later referred for specialised treatment.
Chamba Bus Accident Kills Seven
The accident occurred at around 7.15 am near Chalunj Mor on the Bairagarh-Tissa road in Churah Valley.
The private bus was travelling from Bairagarh towards Chamba when it overturned and plunged down the hillside before coming to rest on a lower section of the road.
The driver and conductor were among the seven people killed. Authorities said 11 passengers suffered injuries, with six seriously injured victims referred to Pt Jawaharlal Nehru Government Medical College and Hospital in Chamba.
Police have not yet established the exact cause of the crash. Initial accounts suggested the driver may have lost control while negotiating a bend, but the circumstances remain under investigation.
Rescue Teams Reach Chamba Accident Site
Local residents were among the first to reach the accident site and began assisting injured passengers before emergency teams arrived.
Personnel from the NDRF, Himachal Pradesh Police, Home Guards, Fire Services and Revenue Department subsequently joined the rescue operation.
All injured passengers were evacuated and taken to medical facilities for treatment.
PM Modi, CM Sukhu Express Condolences
PM Modi expressed grief over the deaths and conveyed condolences to the families of the victims while wishing the injured a speedy recovery.
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu also expressed condolences and directed the district administration to ensure immediate and adequate treatment for those injured.
The accident comes during a period of heavy monsoon disruption across Himachal Pradesh, although police have not linked the crash to weather conditions.
