
Sergio Gor Meets Commerce Secretary Agrawal
The U.S. Ambassador-designate, Sergio Gor, met India’s Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal (often referred to in media as “Agrawal” in earlier reports) in New Delhi. The meeting focused on strengthening bilateral trade and investment ties.
Diplomatic Visit
Gor is on a six-day visit to India before formally taking charge. He arrived accompanied by Michael J. Rigas, U.S. Deputy Secretary for Management and Resources.
Trade Talks & Intentions
During the meeting, both sides expressed intent to revive and deepen the India–U.S. trade dialogue. Gor conveyed that many issues are in the “technical stage,” and both nations seek to negotiate terms favorable to their economic interests.
Broader Engagements
The ambassador-designate has also met other senior Indian leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. His itinerary suggests a push to reset and reinforce strategic cooperation between the two countries during his forthcoming term.
