Sergei Lavrov Says Iran, Venezuela Targeted For Oil
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has claimed that alleged US efforts to pursue regime change in Iran and Venezuela were driven by a desire to gain control over their oil and gas resources. His remarks come as the Iran war continues to deepen geopolitical tensions and raise fears of a wider regional conflict.
Lavrov Links Regime Change To Oil And Gas
Lavrov said US plans targeting Iran and Venezuela were aimed at securing greater influence over their energy reserves. By framing both countries through the lens of oil and gas, he presented Washington’s actions as part of a broader strategy tied to control over major hydrocarbon producers rather than only security or political concerns.
Russia Warns Of Wider Middle East War
The Russian foreign minister also warned that the ongoing conflict in the Middle East could grow into a broader regional war. His comments reflect Moscow’s effort to present the war as a destabilising development with consequences far beyond Iran and Israel, especially as regional tensions continue to affect energy supplies and diplomatic alignments.
Lavrov Says US And Israel Oppose Iran Normalisation
Lavrov further claimed that the United States and Israel do not want Iran to normalise relations with its neighbours. According to his remarks, such normalisation would reduce tensions in the region and weaken the strategic logic behind continued confrontation. The statement adds to Russia’s wider diplomatic messaging that outside powers are obstructing stability in West Asia.
