Joins Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam
A day after his expulsion, Sengottaiyan formally joined Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), the party led by actor-politician Vijay. He was welcomed at the TVK headquarters in Chennai, with the party describing his entry as a major organisational boost ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.
Boost For TVK Ahead Of 2026 Elections
Sengottaiyan, a nine-time MLA with strong influence in the Kongu region, is expected to strengthen TVK’s prospects in western Tamil Nadu. His grassroots network and long political experience are seen as valuable assets for the emerging party as it attempts to challenge established Dravidian outfits.
Impact On Tamil Nadu’s Political Landscape
The development reflects growing churn within the AIADMK, which has witnessed internal dissent following electoral setbacks. For TVK, the induction of a senior leader signals its intention to expand beyond its celebrity-driven appeal and build a broader political base.
