Security Forces Seize Arms Cache in Manipur Operations
Security forces in Manipur have intensified counter-insurgency efforts, leading to the successful recovery of a significant cache of arms and ammunition during joint operations conducted from April 13 to 19, 2025. The operations were carried out by the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, Manipur Police, and were supported by personnel from the CRPF, BSF, and ITBP. These efforts were focused across multiple sensitive districts, including Churachandpur, Tengnoupal, Imphal East, and Imphal West.
The operations resulted in the seizure of at least 22 weapons, multiple improvised explosive devices (IEDs), grenades, and other war-like stores. On April 13, a major breakthrough came in Sanasabi, Imphal East, where troops uncovered four improvised mortars, grenades, and assorted ammunition. In Churachandpur’s Gelmoul village, a militant training camp was also identified and dismantled, marking a key success in disrupting insurgent infrastructure.
On April 16, in the Saidan area of Churachandpur, seven sophisticated and improvised firearms were seized. The cache included a .303 rifle, 9mm pistol, a modified carbine machine gun, a single-barrel rifle, a modified 81 mm mortar, and two country-made mortars. Ammunition and additional stores were also recovered from the site, indicating potential plans for large-scale unrest.
Operations on April 17 further strengthened the crackdown. In joint raids conducted in the Sanjebam area of Imphal West and parts of Imphal East, troops seized an AK rifle, SLR, a 9mm carbine machine gun, a modified single-barrel rifle, a pistol, and ammunition. Separately, in the Salvom area of Tengnoupal district, security forces recovered two pistols and ten IEDs.
These developments are being seen as part of a broader strategy to neutralize armed groups and restore lasting peace in the region. The success of these operations reflects enhanced coordination among the various forces and their commitment to ensuring security and stability in Manipur.
