Security Forces in Gunfights With Terrorists in Udhampur and Kishtwar
Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir launched simultaneous operations in the Udhampur and Kishtwar districts, engaging in separate gunfights with terrorists in heavily forested and remote areas. Both encounters began following credible intelligence inputs suggesting the presence of armed militants.
In Udhampur district, a joint team of security forces initiated a cordon-and-search operation in the Jopher village of Ramnagar tehsil. The action quickly escalated when troops came under fire from hiding terrorists, resulting in an ongoing exchange. Officials suspect two to three terrorists are trapped in the area. The terrain, marked by dense vegetation and a river, has made movement difficult, prompting reinforcements from the Army and Central Reserve Police Force to fortify the operation.
Meanwhile, in Kishtwar’s Chatroo area, a similar search operation led to a direct confrontation with terrorists. Security personnel, acting on specific intelligence, encountered gunfire while combing the forested region. A fierce gunfight ensued, with reports indicating that two or more terrorists are holed up in the vicinity. Additional units have been rushed to the spot to seal the perimeter and prevent any escape.
These encounters come amid heightened security operations in the Jammu region since late March, reflecting a sustained crackdown on militant activity. On March 27, a deadly confrontation in Kathua’s Sanyal area left two terrorists and four policemen dead. The incidents underline the growing effort by security agencies to eliminate terrorist presence and thwart any plans of infiltration or violence in the region.
Authorities have urged local residents to remain indoors and cooperate fully with the ongoing operations. As both encounters continue, security forces remain determined to neutralize threats and restore peace across the affected areas.
