Secunderabad-Shalimar Express Derails Near Howrah; No Casualties Reported

Early Friday morning, three coaches of the Secunderabad-Shalimar Superfast Express derailed near Howrah, West Bengal, causing disruption but resulting in no injuries or fatalities.

The incident occurred around 5:30 am near Nalpur, approximately 40 km from Kolkata, affecting a weekly special train that runs between Howrah and Hyderabad.

According to a statement from South Eastern Railway (SER), the derailment involved a parcel van and two passenger coaches, specifically a third AC economy and a third AC coach. “A parcel van and two coaches of 22850 Secunderabad-Shalimar Weekly Express derailed while passing through Nalpur station of Kharagpur Division at 5.31 am today,” the statement confirmed.

Relief Operations and Passenger Assistance

As soon as the derailment was reported, an accident relief train along with medical relief units were dispatched from Santragachhi and Kharagpur to provide assistance. South Eastern Railway spokesperson Omprakash Charan Sai stated that buses were arranged to transport stranded passengers to their destinations. “The derailment occurred when the train was crossing from the middle to the outer tracks,” he added.

Investigation Into the Cause

SER has announced that a departmental inquiry will be conducted to determine the cause of the derailment.
