Sasikala Names New Party Ahead Of Polls
V.K. Sasikala has formally announced the name of the political outfit she will be associated with ahead of the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election, marking her latest attempt to re-enter the State’s electoral landscape. The party will be known as All India Puratchi Thalaivar Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam, and it is expected to field candidates in both Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
Sasikala Announces New Party Name
Sasikala revealed that the party’s name is All India Puratchi Thalaivar Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam, often shortened to AIPTMMK. She also confirmed that the party will contest on the “Coconut Grove” election symbol. The announcement came weeks after the unveiling of the party flag, which had already signalled her intention to play an active role in the upcoming Assembly polls.
The development is politically significant because Sasikala had earlier remained outside direct electoral activity after her exit from the AIADMK power structure.
AIPTMMK To Contest Tamil Nadu Polls
Sasikala said the party plans to field candidates in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and indicated that it may work with like-minded parties during the election campaign. While she did not clearly spell out any alliance structure, her remarks suggested that the new formation is preparing for a broader political role rather than a symbolic launch.
The party’s symbol, “Coconut Grove,” was presented as a sign of unity, and Sasikala said the organisation would function with that message at its core.
Tamil Nadu Politics Gets New Player
The announcement adds another layer to Tamil Nadu’s already active pre-election environment, where established Dravidian parties and smaller regional players are positioning themselves ahead of 2026. Sasikala also used the occasion to criticise the ruling DMK government on issues including law and order and public welfare.
Her return through AIPTMMK is likely to draw attention because of her long association with former Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa and her past influence within the AIADMK camp.
