
Samajwadi Party Leader Killed After Pole Falls On Car
A Samajwadi Party leader was killed in Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh district after a high-mast lighting pole being installed at a roadside site collapsed onto his vehicle while he was passing through the area.

The incident occurred near Babuganj market in the Antu area during installation work in front of a petrol pump. Witnesses said the heavy pole suddenly lost balance and fell onto a moving SUV. The victim, identified as Lal Bahadur Yadav, died on the spot as bystanders could not react in time.
The structure reportedly weighed around one tonne and was part of an ongoing infrastructure installation. Panic spread in the locality immediately after the crash, with residents gathering at the scene.

Yadav, 47, had contested the 2022 Nagar Panchayat elections from Antu and was associated with the Samajwadi Party. He was also a Public Works Department contractor and held a country liquor licence. At the time of the accident, he was driving a Hyundai Creta toward the city.
Police arrived shortly after receiving information and sent the body for post-mortem examination.
Negligence Probe And Police Action
Local residents raised concerns over safety practices during installation work and alleged negligence by workers at the site. Authorities stated that a case is being registered and an investigation will determine responsibility for the accident.
Officials said further action will follow based on findings related to construction safety compliance.
