Russian missile and drone strikes on Kyiv and surrounding areas have killed four people, including a three-year-old child, as Ukraine faces renewed pressure on its air-defence systems. Several others were wounded during the overnight attacks.

Three members of the same family — a grandfather, grandmother and their three-year-old grandson — were killed in Pukhivka in the Brovary district northeast of Kyiv.
Ukrainian authorities said the family was hit during a double-tap drone attack. The child’s parents, his 15-year-old brother and a neighbour who came to assist the family were among those wounded.
Another person was killed in Kyiv after Russia launched ballistic missiles towards the Ukrainian capital, triggering explosions and fires across several areas.
Ukraine Faces Air Defence Pressure
The latest attack involved drones and ballistic missiles, which remain among the most difficult threats for Ukrainian air defences to intercept.
Ukraine relies heavily on Western-supplied systems, including US-made Patriot batteries, to defend its cities against ballistic missile attacks.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has repeatedly called for additional air-defence systems and interceptor missiles as Russia maintains its long-range bombardment campaign.
Ukraine Targets Russian Oil Refineries
The Russian attacks came as Ukrainian forces continued conducting long-range strikes against targets inside Russia.
Ukraine said its forces struck the Ilsky and Syzran oil refineries, with fires reported at both facilities.
Kyiv has increasingly targeted Russian energy and logistics infrastructure as part of efforts to disrupt Moscow’s military supply network and reduce its capacity to sustain operations.
The latest exchanges underline the continuing intensity of the Russia-Ukraine war as both sides expand long-range attacks.
