Russian Strikes Kill 17 in Kyiv Region
At least 17 people were killed and 44 injured in a major Russian missile and drone attack on Kyiv and its surrounding region, according to updated Ukrainian figures. The revised toll is significantly higher than initial reports of one death.
Russian Strikes Hit Kyiv Region
The overnight assault affected multiple locations across Kyiv and the surrounding Bucha, Brovary and Fastiv districts. Emergency crews searched damaged warehouses and other buildings amid concerns that additional people could be trapped beneath rubble.
Fires broke out at several sites, while a strike reportedly caused an ammonia leak that emergency teams later worked to contain. Railway infrastructure, logistics centres, private homes and commercial facilities were among the properties damaged.
Ukrainian officials said several targets had no connection to military activity. Russia’s Defence Ministry maintained that its forces had attacked military logistics and supply facilities.
Russia Launches Missiles and Drones
Ukraine’s air force said Russia launched 24 ballistic missiles, four Zircon or Oniks missiles and 115 drones during the operation. Air-defence units reportedly intercepted or electronically suppressed 98 drones.
However, Ukraine said none of the ballistic or advanced missiles was intercepted. The failure renewed concerns about Kyiv’s shortage of specialised air-defence interceptors capable of destroying high-speed ballistic weapons.
Four injured people were reported to be in critical condition as rescue operations continued.
Zelenskyy Seeks More Patriot Missiles
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy renewed his appeal for additional Patriot air-defence systems and PAC-3 interceptors. He argued that faster deliveries from international partners could have prevented some casualties.
The attack came amid continuing Ukrainian drone operations against logistics and industrial facilities inside Russia. Moscow and Kyiv have each accused the other of targeting civilian infrastructure, while both maintain that their operations are directed at sites supporting military activity.
