Russian Oil Tanker Aqua Titan Reaches India
A Russian crude oil tanker that was originally headed to China has now reached New Mangalore Port, highlighting how India is reshaping its energy imports amid global supply disruptions and changing trade routes. The arrival of Aqua Titan is being seen as part of a wider shift in crude flows as Indian refiners step up purchases to secure supplies during the ongoing West Asia crisis.
Aqua Titan Reaches New Mangalore Port
The tanker Aqua Titan arrived at New Mangalore Port carrying a large cargo of Russian crude oil. The vessel had initially been bound for the Chinese port of Rizhao, but changed course in mid-March and headed towards India instead. Its arrival marks a significant development in India’s recent crude import strategy, especially at a time when energy supply routes are under pressure.
Russian Crude Cargo Diverted From China
Aqua Titan had loaded Russia’s Urals crude from a Baltic Sea port in late January before beginning its earlier China-bound journey. Its diversion to India reflects a broader redirection in oil flows, with several cargoes reportedly being rerouted as buyers adjust to market uncertainty and shifting geopolitical conditions. The vessel is among the first such diverted shipments to physically reach an Indian port.
India Strengthens Oil Supply Security
The tanker’s arrival is important for India because it adds to recent efforts to secure stable crude supplies despite tensions affecting traditional energy corridors. Indian refiners have been increasing Russian oil purchases as part of a wider strategy to protect domestic fuel availability and reduce exposure to disruptions elsewhere. The use of New Mangalore Port for such arrivals also underlines the role of the west coast in India’s current energy planning.
