Russia Strikes Ukrainian Infrastructure Ahead of Winter

Russia launched large-scale strikes on Friday, targeting Ukraine’s energy and infrastructure with missiles and drones. Explosions were reported in Kyiv and several regions, leaving power grids and buildings damaged. The Ukrainian Air Force described the strikes as “massive” and warned of rolling blackouts.

Impact and Casualties

Kyiv experienced power outages after energy lines were hit, and a high-rise building caught fire in the city. Officials confirmed at least nine people were injured. In an earlier wave of attacks this week, five civilians were killed as strikes damaged energy facilities in Lviv, Zaporizhzhia, and other areas. Tens of thousands of households lost electricity supply.

Pressure on Energy Sector

The strikes are part of Russia’s ongoing campaign against Ukraine’s energy networks, coming just weeks before winter. Gas production facilities and power plants have faced repeated assaults, raising concerns about heating and electricity shortages during colder months.

Uncertainty Ahead

Ukraine has deployed repair teams to restore damaged networks, but challenges remain. Analysts say the country’s resilience will depend on the pace of repairs, supply of critical parts, and sustained international assistance. The repeated targeting of civilian infrastructure highlights the risks of prolonged hardship for the population.
