Russia Strikes Kyiv With Missiles, Drones

Russia launched a large overnight missile and drone attack on Kyiv, killing at least eight people and injuring dozens as explosions rocked the Ukrainian capital for several hours. Residential buildings and civilian infrastructure were damaged across multiple districts.

Russia Missile Drone Attack Hits Kyiv

Ukrainian officials said Russia used ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and drones in the overnight assault on Kyiv. Air raid alerts were issued across large parts of Ukraine as residents took shelter in metro stations and other protected areas.

The attack caused widespread damage across the capital, with authorities reporting destruction at dozens of locations. Emergency crews were deployed through the night to respond to fires, collapsed structures and trapped residents.

Kyiv Residential Buildings Damaged

Kyiv officials said several residential buildings were hit or damaged during the attack. A nine-storey apartment building partially collapsed after a direct strike, while fires were reported in different parts of the city.

A hotel and multiple residential blocks were also damaged. Local authorities said some of the injured included emergency workers who were responding to the strikes. Rescue operations continued as officials assessed the full scale of the damage.

Ukraine War Escalation Continues

The attack came after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned of a possible major Russian strike and cut short a visit to Dublin. Ukraine has also intensified long-range strikes on Russian military and energy facilities in recent weeks.

Poland briefly scrambled fighter jets as a precaution during the Russian attack, though no airspace violation was reported. Both sides have continued exchanging attacks as diplomatic efforts to end the war remain stalled.
