Russia Strikes Kyiv Government Building with Ballistic Missile

Russia has struck a Ukrainian government building in Kyiv with an Iskander ballistic missile, the first such attack since the war began. The explosion damaged nearly 900 square meters of the structure and caused a major fire. Ukrainian officials said the missile did not fully detonate, preventing even greater destruction.

Largest Air Assault Since War Began

The strike was part of Russia’s biggest aerial assault of the conflict so far, involving more than 800 drones and several missile salvos across Ukraine. At least four civilians, including a mother and her infant child, were killed in the wider attacks, and dozens were reported injured.

International and Diplomatic Response

Ukraine’s Presidential Chief of Staff raised the incident in talks with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, stressing the need for stronger air defences. The EU ambassador to Ukraine inspected the damage and described a “gaping hole” in the government building. Ukrainian leaders used the attack to renew calls for harsher sanctions against Moscow.
