Russia Plans to Hire More Indian Workers Amid Labour Shortage
Russia is looking to recruit a larger number of Indian workers to address acute labour shortages across several sectors of its economy. Officials familiar with the process said thousands of additional Indian workers are expected to be hired in the coming months, adding to the existing Indian workforce already present in Russia.
Sectors Driving Demand
The demand is primarily coming from construction, manufacturing, municipal services, and infrastructure-related industries, where shortages have widened due to demographic pressures and limited domestic labour availability. Indian workers, both skilled and semi-skilled, are being seen as a key resource to fill these gaps.
Bilateral Framework for Worker Safety
India and Russia have recently strengthened cooperation on labour mobility through formal arrangements aimed at ensuring legal recruitment and better protection for Indian workers abroad. These measures are intended to prevent exploitation, streamline documentation, and improve working conditions.
Officials said the initiative is expected to benefit both countries, with Russia gaining access to a reliable workforce and India expanding overseas employment opportunities for its citizens. Discussions are ongoing to further scale up recruitment in a regulated manner.
