Russia missile-drone strike kills four in Ukraine

Overnight, Russian forces launched a wave of missile and drone attacks on Ukraine, killing at least four civilians and wounding about twenty others. In the capital Kyiv, two people died and thirteen were wounded in a ballistic missile strike, while in the Dnipropetrovsk region, two civilians lost their lives and around seven sustained injuries. The Ukrainian Air Force said nine missiles and 62 drones were used in the assault.

Response from Kyiv

Volodymyr Zelenskyy issued an urgent appeal to Western allies for advanced air-defence systems, citing the country’s growing vulnerability to Russia’s aerial campaigns. He warned that without enhanced protection Ukraine’s urban centres remain exposed.

Broader implications

The attack highlights the increasing challenge faced by Ukraine’s air-defence apparatus and signals that Russia is intensifying targeted strikes on civilian areas. Analysts say this may raise barriers to foreign investment and further strain civilian morale. The incident adds pressure on NATO and other allies to step up military support.
