Russia Denies Reports of Deal With Pakistan

Russia has rejected recent reports that it is entering into a multibillion-dollar industrial or engine cooperation with Pakistan. The Russian government described these news items as exaggerated and misleading.

According to those reports, Moscow and Islamabad were said to be planning joint projects such as setting up steel mills in Karachi or collaborating on engine manufacturing. These claims followed a meeting on May 13 between Haroon Akhtar Khan, a special assistant to Pakistan’s prime minister, and Russian envoy Denis Nazirov.

Denial from Moscow

Russian officials have clearly stated that while discussions may have taken place, no formal agreement has been signed. They denied the existence of any multibillion-dollar contract and called the reports a “runaway narrative.” The Kremlin also warned that such stories aim to strain its strategic partnership with India, which it described as “special and privileged.”

Context and Clarifications

News outlets earlier claimed that the proposed industrial tie-up was part of a broader economic cooperation push. However, fact-checking indicates that no binding deal has materialised. Analysts note that Russia and Pakistan have shown interest in cooperation in energy, trade, and agriculture sectors, but those are separate from the disputed industrial project.

Russia’s rejection underscores its intent to maintain stable diplomatic balance in a region where its ties with India remain strong.
