Russia Denies Plans To Attack NATO, EU States
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated during a UN meeting that Russia has no intention of attacking any NATO or European Union country. He added, however, that any aggression directed toward Russia would be met with a “decisive response.”
Lavrov made the comments amid heightened tensions over repeated accusations of Russian airspace violations and military posturing near Europe’s borders. He insisted that Russia seeks no conflict with NATO or EU members, calling suggestions otherwise “baseless.” Yet, he warned that threats to Russia’s sovereignty would not go unanswered.
The remarks come at a time when several NATO nations have expressed alarm over alleged incursions into their airspace and increasing Russian military activity near allied territories. Though Russia denies these incursions, they have escalated diplomatic friction in the region.
Lavrov’s declaration seeks to respond to growing Western concerns about possible escalation. His assurance may aim to prevent further deterioration of relations, even as distrust between Russia and Western powers remains deep and enduring.
