Russia, China Discuss Ukraine Conflict
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov met his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in Beijing on July 13 to discuss the ongoing Ukraine conflict, evolving global dynamics, and their respective relationships with the United States. The meeting was held on the sidelines of a major multilateral gathering.
Strengthening the Strategic Partnership
Lavrov and Wang reaffirmed their countries’ “no-limits” strategic partnership, first announced in 2022. Both leaders emphasised expanding cooperation within key international platforms such as the United Nations, BRICS, the G20, APEC, and the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).
They agreed to deepen coordination in facing global crises and reaffirmed their intention to work together on critical international issues including the Ukraine war, tensions in the Korean Peninsula, and Iran’s nuclear programme.
Joint Approach to Global Challenges
The two ministers agreed that Russia and China must respond jointly to the growing turbulence in world affairs. Their statements focused on building a multipolar global order and resisting what they describe as “external interference” in domestic matters. They also called for more inclusive approaches in handling global crises.
Ukraine Crisis In Focus
While the exact details of their discussions on Ukraine were not disclosed, both sides underlined the need for a political solution. There was no mention of any new peace proposals, but the talks signal ongoing diplomatic engagement aimed at shaping a resolution to the conflict.
The meeting comes at a time when both Russia and China are increasing their international outreach while maintaining a cautious stance in dealings with Western nations. The discussion reflects their shared desire to preserve influence and maintain stability through diplomatic and strategic alignment.
