Russia Bombs Kyiv With 595 Drones, 48 Missiles In 12-Hour Attack
Russia launched a major aerial strike on Ukraine early Sunday, firing 595 drones and 48 missiles overnight, in what officials say was one of its most intense attacks so far. Ukrainian air defenses intercepted 568 drones and 43 missiles, though several got through.
Civilian casualties and damage
At least four civilians died, including a 12-year-old, and dozens were injured across Kyiv and other regions. Structures hit in the capital included a cardiology clinic, residential buildings and factories.
Poland scrambles jets
Poland, reacting to the proximity of the assault, temporarily closed airspace over its southeast and scrambled fighter jets to guard against spillover threats.
Russia’s claim and Ukraine’s response
The Russian Defense Ministry claimed its targets were military installations and infrastructure, denying intent to hit civilian areas. Ukrainian leaders described the attacks as brutal and renewed calls for international action to cut Russia’s war revenues.
Wider regional impact
Beyond Kyiv, regions such as Zaporizhzhia, Sumy, Mykolaiv, Odesa and Chernihiv also came under drone and missile fire. Analysts suggest the scale and intensity of the barrage stretched Ukraine’s air defence systems to their limits. Poland’s move reflected NATO states’ growing fears of escalation.
