RSS Chief Calls for Stray Dog Population Control

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat has urged that Delhi’s stray dog problem should be tackled through effective population control rather than by placing the animals in shelters.

Humane Population Strategy

Speaking at a religious event in Cuttack, Bhagwat, who holds a degree in veterinary science, stressed that every animal has a right to live. He said the stray dog crisis cannot be managed by confining animals to shelters alone but requires quotas and community-led regulation.

Balancing Nature and Development

Bhagwat used a vivid analogy to underscore his point: while milking a cow, one leaves some milk for its calf—similarly, communities must balance human needs with compassion for animals. He called for a symbiotic coexistence rooted in ethical responsibility toward nature and development.
