Royal Scions Criticize Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Plaint Maharajas’ Comment
Several royal descendants from India’s erstwhile princely states have voiced their displeasure over Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s reference to their ancestors as “plaint Maharajas.”
They argue that Gandhi’s comments reflect a limited understanding of history and highlight his “selective amnesia” about his own privileges.
Scions Criticize “Outdated Entitlement” and “Selective Amnesia”
Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, a member of the Scindia family that ruled Gwalior before independence, condemned Gandhi’s remarks, accusing him of “selective amnesia.” Scindia asserted, “Your dissonance only exposes Congress’s agenda further—Rahul Gandhi is no champion of Atmanirbhar Bharat; he is merely a product of an outdated entitlement.”
Rajasthan Royals and Former Congress Leaders Weigh In
Diya Kumari, Rajasthan’s Deputy Chief Minister and granddaughter of the last Maharaja of Jaipur, labeled Gandhi’s statements an “attempt to malign the erstwhile royal families of India.” Vikramaditya Singh, grandson of Kashmir’s last ruler, criticized Gandhi’s “superficial understanding of history.”
Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar of Udaipur’s House of Mewar added that royal families have historically protected their people, contributing significantly to India’s cultural and political heritage.
