Rosatom To Evacuate More Staff From Bushehr Plant
Russia’s state nuclear corporation Rosatom will evacuate more personnel from Iran’s Bushehr nuclear power plant this week, leaving only a few dozen staff at the site as safety concerns grow around the facility. The move follows recent reports of a strike landing close to the working reactor, though no damage or injuries were reported.
Rosatom To Reduce Staff At Bushehr Plant
Rosatom chief Alexei Likhachev said the latest evacuation phase will significantly reduce the number of Russian workers stationed at the Bushehr nuclear plant. Last week, he had said about 480 Rosatom personnel were at the site. After the next round of departures, only a small operational team is expected to remain.
Strike Near Reactor Raised Nuclear Safety Fears
The staffing decision comes after a strike reportedly landed close to the active reactor at Bushehr without causing damage or casualties. Even though the reactor itself was not hit, the incident raised concern because of the risks tied to any military activity near a live nuclear facility. Bushehr is Iran’s only operating nuclear power plant and was built by Russia.
Russia Warns Against Attack On Bushehr
The Kremlin has said it warned the United States against striking the plant, with spokesman Dmitry Peskov saying any such action could lead to irreparable consequences. Moscow has been stressing that nuclear infrastructure must not become part of the conflict, as even a near miss could trigger a much wider regional safety crisis.
