Root Surpasses Tendulkar in Home Test Run Tally

Joe Root added another milestone to his career during the fifth Test between England and India at The Oval, overtaking Sachin Tendulkar to become the second-highest run-scorer in Test matches played at home.

Root Crosses 7,224 Runs at Home

Root scored 29 runs in the first innings, taking his total to 7,224 runs in 84 home Tests. With this, he moved past Tendulkar’s record of 7,216 runs scored in 94 Tests on Indian soil. Root’s home batting average now exceeds 55, with 23 centuries and 33 half-centuries.

Only Ponting Ahead in Home Records

While Root now stands second, the top spot remains with former Australian captain Ricky Ponting, who scored 7,578 runs in 92 home Tests at an average close to 57.

Root’s Career Test Stats So Far

Joe Root has played 158 Tests and 287 innings, accumulating around 13,438 runs with an average slightly above 51. His career includes 38 centuries and 66 fifties, placing him among the most consistent batters in modern Test cricket.

A Testament to Longevity and Form

Root’s achievement highlights his exceptional consistency and dominance in English conditions over the last decade. Cricket experts have credited his footwork, temperament, and adaptability as key factors in his sustained success.

Closing in on the All-Time Leader

Sachin Tendulkar still leads the all-time Test run chart with 15,921 runs. Root now trails by about 2,500 runs. If he maintains his current form, many believe he could close the gap within the next 25–30 Tests.
