Riyan Parag Fined For Vaping During IPL Match

Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag has been fined 25% of his match fee and handed one demerit point after being found guilty of breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the match against Punjab Kings.

Riyan Parag IPL Code Of Conduct Breach

The disciplinary action was taken after Parag was seen vaping inside the dressing room during Rajasthan Royals’ IPL 2026 match against Punjab Kings at Mullanpur.

The incident was captured on camera and quickly went viral on social media, leading to criticism over player conduct during a live tournament match.

Rajasthan Royals Captain Penalised

The IPL said Parag had breached a Level 1 offence under the Code of Conduct for players and team officials. He accepted the sanction imposed by the match referee, which means there will be no formal hearing.

The penalty includes a 25% deduction from his match fee and one demerit point. Reports also said he was warned against repeating such conduct.

Vaping Row Raises Discipline Questions

The incident has brought renewed attention to player behaviour in high-profile tournaments, especially when matches are being broadcast live to millions of viewers.

Vaping and e-cigarettes are banned in India under the Prohibition of Electronic Cigarettes Act, 2019, which prohibits their production, sale, distribution and advertisement. While the IPL action is limited to its Code of Conduct, the controversy has raised wider questions about responsibility, visibility and discipline inside team areas.

For Rajasthan Royals, the episode adds unwanted attention during their IPL campaign and shifts focus away from cricketing performance.
