Revanth Reddy Launches EAGLE Task Force to Tackle Drug Menace

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has launched a new specialized anti-narcotics unit named the EAGLE Task Force—Elite Action Group for Law Enforcement—to aggressively combat drug and ganja abuse across the state. The announcement was made during an event marking the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

The new task force replaces the Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau and will be empowered with advanced surveillance technologies, a specially trained workforce, and inter-agency coordination tools. Its primary objective is “Zero Tolerance – Total Surveillance,” aiming to prevent even a single ganja plant from being cultivated in the state.

The Chief Minister underlined that EAGLE will operate across all regions—from remote forest belts and state borders to urban centers and academic institutions. “Even if one ganja plant is grown or drugs are brought into the state, EAGLE will monitor it,” he stated firmly.

Telangana drugs

Drawing parallels to the drug crises that have gripped states like Punjab and Haryana, Revanth Reddy warned against Telangana sliding into a similar path. He reminded citizens that Telangana was a state born out of struggle, sacrifice, and hope—and allowing it to become a hub for narcotics would betray its very foundation. He called upon the public to stay alert, report suspicious activity, and collectively work toward making Telangana a model for drug-free governance. “We all should join hands to eradicate drug menace and make Telangana a role model for the world.”

EAGLE Task Force

The EAGLE Task Force has been conceived as a comprehensive, proactive unit that blends real-time intelligence, rapid response teams, and legal enforcement. The team is expected to act swiftly on leads, dismantle trafficking networks, and ensure that peddlers face strict legal consequences. The task force will also monitor digital platforms to trace newer forms of drug sales, including cannabis-laced chocolates and edibles targeting school and college students.

Public figures, including actors and film producers, lent their support to the initiative. Actor Ram Charan called for treating drug sales near schools as organized crime, and urged the youth to choose sports, education, and discipline over addiction.

University accountability

Chief Minister Reddy issued a stern warning to educational institutions, stating that school and college administrations will be held accountable if campuses are found to be breeding grounds for substance abuse. He emphasized that institutions collecting high fees must also take full responsibility for ensuring a safe and drug-free environment. Regular inspections, student orientation, and campus vigilance were outlined as mandatory steps going forward.
