Rajnath Singh Lays Foundation for Naval Communication Hub in Telangana

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has laid the foundation stone for a new Very Low Frequency (VLF) communication station for the Indian Navy in Telangana.

The facility, situated in the Damagundam Reserve Forest area of Vikarabad, will span 2,900 acres and come at an estimated cost of ₹3,200 crore. This strategic project aims to enhance the Navy’s long-range communication capabilities, playing a critical role in India’s maritime defense.

Strategic Importance of the VLF Station

The newly established VLF station is expected to significantly strengthen the Indian Navy’s ability to communicate securely over vast distances. Rajnath Singh underscored the station’s importance, calling it a strategic asset crucial for maintaining effective command and control over naval operations, especially in complex maritime environments. The station is designed to support real-time communication between ships, submarines, and command centers, which is vital for operational efficiency.

Boosting Naval Communication for Enhanced Coordination

During his address, the Defence Minister emphasized the role of seamless communication in modern military operations, where coordination between personnel and equipment is becoming increasingly critical. He noted that in today’s evolving warfare landscape, the ability to convey orders and make decisions in real-time gives a strategic advantage, regardless of the strength of equipment or manpower.

The facility aims to ensure that Indian naval assets remain interconnected, which is key for quick decision-making and maintaining high morale among personnel in operational scenarios. Singh highlighted that robust communication systems are a decisive factor in the success of naval missions and play a vital role in maintaining the readiness and unity of the forces.

Securing the Indo-Pacific and Indian Ocean Region

Rajnath Singh also pointed to the increasing global interest in the Indian Ocean Region (IOR) and the Indo-Pacific, stressing the necessity for India to maintain a strong presence in these strategic waters. He emphasized that a reliable communication network is essential for safeguarding India’s commercial and security interests across these regions. With the establishment of this advanced VLF communication station, the Indian Navy is set to bolster its reach and operational capabilities, further strengthening India’s maritime security.
