Rajnath Singh Inaugurates 125 BRO Projects

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday inaugurated 125 infrastructure projects built by the Border Roads Organisation across various border states and Union Territories. Officials said this was the largest single-day launch of BRO projects so far, with a total cost of around ₹5,000 crore.

Roads, Bridges And Key Tunnel Opened

The projects include 28 roads, 93 bridges and four other facilities spread across Ladakh, Jammu & Kashmir, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, West Bengal and Mizoram.

One of the major highlights is the 920-metre Shyok Tunnel on the Darbuk–Shyok–Daulat Beg Oldie road in Ladakh. The tunnel is expected to ensure all-weather connectivity to forward areas, improving logistics and access during winter months when heavy snowfall blocks traditional routes.

Strategic Boost For Border Areas

Officials said the new infrastructure will support faster movement of security forces, better supply lines and safer travel for residents in remote regions. Improved connectivity is also expected to benefit tourism and local economies that depend on easier road access.

According to data shared, more than 350 BRO projects have been dedicated over the past two years, with a strong focus on strengthening infrastructure in hilly and border regions.

Government Focus On Frontier Development

Speaking at the inauguration, Rajnath Singh said that improving road and tunnel connectivity along the borders is important not only for defence but also for economic activity, healthcare access and integration of remote areas with the rest of the country. He added that the projects reflect the government’s long-term vision for development in frontier regions.
