Rajnath Singh Approves DRDO Tech Transfer
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has approved the transfer of technologies developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) to India’s private defence industry, in a move aimed at expanding domestic manufacturing and strengthening the country’s defence industrial base. The initiative is expected to encourage greater participation from private companies in producing defence equipment and systems.
DRDO Technologies for Private Defence Industry
The approved technology transfer is intended to allow private-sector defence manufacturers to access and commercialise selected technologies developed by DRDO. Greater industry participation is expected to help translate indigenous research and development into locally manufactured defence products.
The move is part of the government’s broader effort to increase collaboration between defence research institutions and domestic industry. By enabling private companies to adopt and manufacture DRDO-developed technologies, authorities aim to accelerate the development and production of indigenous defence capabilities.
Push for Indigenous Defence Manufacturing
The decision comes amid India’s continued focus on reducing dependence on imported defence equipment. Expanding domestic production is a key component of the country’s efforts to build a stronger and more self-reliant defence manufacturing ecosystem.
