Rajeev Shukla to Become Acting BCCI President in July
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is poised for a leadership transition as Vice President Rajeev Shukla is set to assume the role of acting president in July 2025. This change comes as current president Roger Binny approaches the BCCI’s mandated retirement age of 70 on July 19. Shukla will serve in an interim capacity until the BCCI’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for September, where a new president will be elected.
Rajeev Shukla BCCI
Rajeev Shukla, a seasoned cricket administrator and political figure, has been serving as the BCCI Vice President since 2020. His extensive experience includes a tenure as the chairman of the Indian Premier League (IPL) from 2011 to 2018 and as the secretary of the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association until 2017. Shukla is also a Member of Parliament in the Rajya Sabha representing the Indian National Congress. His interim presidency is expected to ensure continuity in the BCCI’s operations during this transitional period.
BCCI Leadership Change
Roger Binny, who took over as BCCI president in October 2022, has had a notable tenure marked by significant achievements. Under his leadership, India clinched two major ICC titles—the T20 World Cup in 2024 and the Champions Trophy in 2025. Binny also played a pivotal role in launching the Women’s Premier League (WPL), enhancing the profile of women’s cricket in the country. His impending retirement is in accordance with the BCCI’s constitutional age limit for office-bearers.
Roger Binny Retirement
Binny’s departure marks the end of a significant chapter in Indian cricket administration. A former all-rounder, he was a key member of India’s 1983 World Cup-winning team and has contributed to the sport both on and off the field. His presidency focused on strengthening domestic cricket, implementing policies to ensure player participation in domestic tournaments, and enhancing the overall structure of Indian cricket.
As the BCCI prepares for its AGM in September, the cricketing community will be watching closely to see who will be elected as the next full-time president. Shukla, given his extensive experience and current role, is considered a strong contender for the position.
