Rajasthan Police Seize 9,550 kg Explosives Ahead of Republic Day

Police in Rajasthan’s Nagaur district seized a massive stockpile of explosives and explosive materials from a farm in Harsaur village on the eve of Republic Day. During a late-night raid on January 25, officers recovered 9,550 kg of ammonium nitrate stored in 187 sacks along with detonators and fuse wires. A 58-year-old man, identified as Suleman Khan, was arrested at the scene in connection with the seizure.

Investigation and Concerns

Ammonium nitrate is a chemical used in both agriculture and industrial blasting but has also been linked to serious blast incidents in the past. Police said preliminary questioning suggested the charged man may have been supplying explosives to individuals in legal and illegal mining sectors. A case has been registered under relevant sections of the Explosives Act, and investigators are probing the source and intended use of the materials.

Authorities have informed central agencies about the recovery and the arrested suspect is expected to be questioned further as part of a broader inquiry. Officials said the quantity of explosives posed a significant safety risk if left undiscovered.
