Rajasthan Assembly Uproar: Congress MLAs Protest ‘Dadi’ Remark

The Rajasthan Assembly witnessed significant turmoil after a BJP minister referred to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi as “aapki dadi” (your grandmother) during a session. This comment was directed at Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition, leading to immediate protests from Congress members who found the remark disrespectful.

Suspension of Congress MLAs

In response to the ensuing uproar, six Congress MLAs were suspended from the Assembly. The suspension was a result of their vehement protests against the BJP minister’s remark, which they deemed derogatory and unparliamentary. The Speaker of the Assembly took this action to restore order during the session.

Overnight Sit-In Protest

Demonstrating their dissent, the suspended Congress MLAs, along with other party members, staged an overnight sit-in within the Assembly premises. They demanded an official apology from the BJP minister and the revocation of their suspension. The protest included symbolic gestures, such as sharing a meal of bajra roti and garlic chutney, highlighting their commitment to the cause.

Political Repercussions

The incident has intensified tensions between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress in Rajasthan. Congress leaders have criticized the BJP for what they perceive as a lack of respect towards prominent figures in Indian history. The BJP, on the other hand, has defended the minister’s remark as unintentional and has accused the Congress of overreacting.

Call for Resolution

As the Assembly continues its sessions, there is a growing call from various quarters for a resolution to the standoff. Political analysts suggest that both parties engage in dialogue to address the grievances and ensure the smooth functioning of legislative processes in the state.

The situation remains dynamic, with further developments expected as both parties navigate the political implications of the incident.
