Railways Adds Extra Coaches Amid IndiGo Crisis
Indian Railways has deployed 116 additional coaches on 37 trains to help passengers affected by widespread IndiGo flight cancellations. The move is aimed at easing travel pressure as thousands of flyers turned to trains after being stranded at airports.
Extra Capacity Across Busy Routes
The extra coaches include sleeper, chair car and AC categories. They have been attached to high-demand routes connecting major cities, where train ticket demand surged sharply after the airline disruption. Some zones have also been asked to run special trains if required, depending on passenger load.
Response To Flight Disruptions
IndiGo has faced several days of flight cancellations and delays due to operational issues involving crew shortages and aircraft rotations. The cancellations resulted in long queues at airports, forcing many passengers to switch to rail travel. The Railways said the additional capacity will remain available until the situation stabilises.
Travellers Advised To Plan Ahead
Officials encouraged passengers to check availability before travel as demand remains high. While the added coaches are expected to help, tickets on busy routes are likely to fill quickly. Authorities continue to monitor passenger movement and may add more capacity if necessary.
