Rahul Gandhi’s Vote Adhikar Yatra Kicks Off in Bihar
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Saturday launched the “Vote Adhikar Yatra” from Sasaram, Bihar. The 16-day campaign spans over 1,300 kilometers and is slated to pass through more than 20, possibly 23, districts, concluding with a mass rally at Gandhi Maidan in Patna on September 1.
Focus on Voting Rights
Gandhi said the march aims to defend the democratic principle of “one person, one vote,” amid allegations of voter disenfranchisement linked to the Election Commission’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. He accused the poll body of enabling “vote theft” by excluding eligible voters.
Role of Allies
RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav and other Mahagathbandhan partners are participating in the yatra. Yadav has emphasized ensuring no voter is wrongly omitted, urging public participation and releasing a campaign song to mobilize support.
Response from Election Commission
The Election Commission has dismissed the allegations, asserting that parties had opportunities to flag errors during the designated correction period and inviting scrutiny, without any proof of collusion.
