Rahul Gandhi: Protect Voting Rights to Safeguard Constitution
Congress Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, while addressing a rally in Madhubani as part of the Voter Adhikar Yatra, said that protecting the right to vote is the only way to safeguard the Indian Constitution. He urged citizens to treat voting rights as a duty and warned that democracy cannot survive if people are denied their say in elections.
Alleged Vote Theft and Roll Deletions
Rahul accused the BJP and the Election Commission of deleting crores of voter names under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. He alleged that over 65 lakh names had been removed, calling it “vote chori” (vote theft), and claimed that such practices were aimed at weakening the opposition and undermining democracy.
Mobilising Voter Awareness
The Voter Adhikar Yatra, launched from Sasaram on August 17, is part of the Congress party’s campaign to mobilize voters across Bihar ahead of the state assembly polls. Rahul Gandhi said the yatra’s goal is to spread awareness about electoral rights, ensure fair elections, and counter attempts to suppress the people’s mandate.
