Rahul Gandhi Displays Ex-Army Chief’s Memoir Outside Parliament

Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday held up pages of an unpublished memoir by former Army Chief General Manoj M. Naravane outside Parliament to criticise Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the government’s handling of the 2020 India-China standoff in eastern Ladakh.

Political Row Over Unpublished Book

Gandhi accused the Prime Minister of lacking leadership during the border clash and said he intended to give the memoir to Modi to read. The book’s excerpts, circulating in media reports, reportedly contain critical commentary on decision-making during the military tensions, though the memoir itself has not been officially published.

The display came after Gandhi’s attempts to quote the memoir’s content inside the Lok Sabha sparked a dispute with the ruling party, leading to a tense budget session and the suspension of several opposition MPs for unruly behaviour. The government has rejected claims that the Prime Minister failed in his duties.

Continuing Parliamentary Tension

The incident highlights deepening political contention over national security issues, parliamentary decorum and the use of unpublished material in parliamentary debate. Leaders from both sides have exchanged sharp criticisms amid the ongoing Budget Session.
