Rahul Gandhi Accuses PM Modi of Memory Loss, Pushes for Caste Census

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Saturday launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, suggesting he is showing signs of memory loss, similar to US President Joe Biden, who has often been in the spotlight for his verbal missteps.

Speaking at a rally in Amravati, Maharashtra, Gandhi drew comparisons between the two leaders while accusing Modi of appropriating Congress’s talking points.

Recalling an incident involving Biden, 81, mistaking Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for Russian President Vladimir Putin, Gandhi said, “Like the former President of America, Modi Ji seems to be losing his memory. My sister told me that Modi Ji is now saying the same things we’ve been saying for a year.”

Rahul Gandhi Accuses Modi of Flip-Flopping

The Congress leader accused Modi of echoing his allegations that the BJP is attacking the Constitution, only to twist the narrative by blaming the Congress. “I’ve been saying for a year that the BJP is attacking the Constitution. Now, Modi Ji says Congress is attacking the Constitution. Perhaps he’s realized people are angry,” Gandhi quipped.

Gandhi also criticized Modi’s stance on reservations. “I told him in Lok Sabha that Congress and the INDIA bloc will abolish the 50% reservation cap. Still, he says Rahul Gandhi is against reservations,” he said, while reiterating the Congress’s commitment to social justice.

Push for Nationwide Caste Census

Renewing his demand for a caste census, Gandhi urged the Modi government to implement the exercise, saying, “The country must know how many Dalits, Adivasis, and OBCs are there. In the next meeting, he might even claim I oppose the caste census.”

Maharashtra Assembly Polls Loom

The Congress, a key member of the Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, is aiming to build on its momentum from the Lok Sabha polls and challenge the ruling Mahayuti alliance of the BJP, Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, and Ajit Pawar’s NCP in the upcoming Maharashtra Assembly elections.

Maharashtra’s 288 Assembly seats will go to polls in a single phase on November 20, with vote counting scheduled for November 23. Gandhi’s remarks are seen as part of the Congress’s broader strategy to consolidate support among OBC, Dalit, and tribal voters while drawing attention to social justice issues.
